The Park Songbook is a community-based initiative that brings together students from Regent Park School of Music (RPSM) and associate composers from the Canadian Music Centre.
Now called Community Music Schools of Toronto (CMST), RPSM has grown to serve additional neighbourhoods in the city. This project was conceived by soprano and former CMST faculty member, Zorana Sadiq, who dreamed of a community-based art song program, where students would write the lyrics, then professional composers would tailor the music and push the abilities of student pianists and singers from the school to perform. This music now lives in the repertoire of Canadian art song, which was always the intent.
