Read is a powerful performer, fully present in every phrase and turn, adventurous, always aware of the structure and direction. Her sound is imposing yet gentle, with an array of colours and expressions.” The WholeNote, Feb 2023

Kate Read presents a concert in which she will deliver a stirring mix of antiquity and modernity. Drawing on works from her debut solo album “After”, released on Leaf Music in November 2022, Kate will play baroque repertoire, alongside contemporary works she commissioned from Canadian composers Andrew Staniland and Benton Roark, for viola and electronics. Joined by award-winning audio engineer Michelle LaCour, (https://loopstitchloops.com) on “Aftermath” the improvised and unifying final track on the album, they entwine the purity of Bach with the chaos of electronics. They will also improvise on some electronic tracks kindly provided to them by Toronto based composer, David Jaeger. Originally from the UK and having held a position with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Kate now resides in Newfoundland, Canada. “Although not a theme, the music on this album indirectly depicts the natural elements of Newfoundland,  – beauty amidst ruggedness, vastness of (sonic) space, wildness of possibilities.
