The CMC is pleased to announce the selection of Renata van Vliet as the second winner of the Walter MacNutt Prize. For her winning proposal, Renata will write a 6 minute work based on two poems by Canadian poet E. Pauline Johnson for SATB chorus and organ accompaniment. This work is in dialogue with MacNutt’s settings of poetry with strong natural imagery. The jury was impressed with Renata’s writing for both choir and organ and appreciated her experience with community ensembles. Van Vliet’s new work will be presented as part of CMC Sponsored events in Toronto in 2026 with a possible event in Renata’s hometown of Kingston.
